Le Corbusier's Cabanon replica

a 1:1 replica of Le Cabanon, a 1952 beach hut which was one of very few structures designed by the architect for his own use (although not, contrary to the press bumph, the only one). The reconstruction sticks to the interior’s precise dimensions, but does not attempt to reconstruct the wooden exterior. Instead there is a black façade which is in fact a blackboard, with chalk to inspire ‘participatory’ interaction with what was originally an intensely private space.

Cape Cod Bauhaus

Marcel Breuer, Serge Chermayeff, Walter Gropius, and Eero Saarinan all built houses on outer Cape Cod in the fifties and sixties. Painter James Lechay (1907–2001) moved in the same rarefied, intellect-heavy circles; his house remains one of the best examples of modest Bauhaus architecture in town. It’s also for rent seasonally; go to weneedavaction

Bamboo made in US

Lamboo Inc. and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have partnered together to research the current use of sustainable materials being used in the Architectural industry, and to implement the use of engineered bamboo for architectural and structural applications. Products created so far are: pressed panels, plywood and structural members, as well as window and door systems. The bamboo is grown in the midst of central Illinois farmland!
Lamboo Inc. will be supplying material for structural applications to be utilized in the final design of the University. Students are also working with Lamboo to design portable architectural elements, including furniture, light fixtures, etc.
